Get Involved

There are many ways for individuals to get involved in preventing animal abuse and neglect.  Most importantly, know what signs indicate abuse or neglect (they are described in the resources below) and act if you see an animal that is abused or improperly cared for.  For state-specific information about who to contact, click here.  If you have the resources, open your home as a foster family or adopt a dog from a shelter.  Another direct way of supporting this crusade is to donate money to a reputable organization, with a mission you believe in, and that has the skills and manpower to get out there and combat the problem.

These resources provide detailed instructions for acting in the face of cruelty and neglect:

  1. ASPCA's Top 10 Ways to Prevent Animal Cruelty
  2. The American Humane Association's Steps for Reporting Abuse
  3. Sign petitions to end animal abuses of all kinds at the Humane Society's Campaigns page
  4. Sign up for Action Alerts at the International Fund for Animal Welfare Blog
