Reading Map: The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant

Infamy to Inspiration

Picture
The dogs kept at Bad Newz Kennel, the Michael Vick-funded dogfighting operation, survived day to day frustration and neglect, brutal injuries and battles, and then months locked in kennels while their fates were decided by the U.S. government.  This is the story of that case and those dogs.  Some of them are killed, tragically and graphically,  while others find loving homes.  Incredibly, three go on to become certified therapy dogs.  Though this is the story of the 49 seized dogs, it is also the story of the humans who put them in that situation and those that rescued them, prosecuted the guilty and rehabilitated the survivors.  It is a tale of the human and canine capacity for cruelty, devotion and forgiveness.
